Baggett Charges to 9th at Oakland SX | SoCal SuperTrucks Suppored Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Race Report

Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS made its way to Northern California this past Saturday night, as round five of the 2020 Monster Energy Supercross Series made its stop at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland, CA. As the sole rider under the team tent this weekend, Blake Baggett raced to a top ten finish.

Blake Baggett attacked the track early during afternoon qualifying, finding the fast line around the track to post the 4th fastest time of the day. That qualifying position allowed him an extremely favorable gate pick in his heat race. Combining that with a perfectly timed start, he was able to to round the first turn in third place. He would match the speed of front runners Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac, and keep the pressure on. In classic El Chupacabra style, Blake put the heat on Tomac, making the move for second place through the whoops and then quickly challenged Roczen for the lead twice over the next lap. The lap after that, Blake would have pressure from Tomac, as they both found themselves in a battle for second. He would fight to the finish, as an unsuccessful pass on the last corner had Blake taking the checkered flag in third place. Blake would have his work cut out for him in his main event, as he found himself outside the top ten after the first lap. He quickly made his way into the top ten by mid-race, moving up one more spot to finish the night in 9th place.

“This is a tough one tonight. My result doesn’t show how quick I was tonight. I didn’t get the start I needed in the main to run up front, as I was buried in the pack. We will keep moving forward and be ready to battle for a podium next weekend in San Diego.”

Justin Bogle did not race this past weekend, as both Justin and the team made the decision earlier this week to sit out the Oakland round allowing him to heal up from his crash at Glendale last weekend.

The team will now head to Petco Park in San Diego, CA for round six of the 2020 Monster Energy Supercross Series.
